Submission GuidelinesSUBMISSIONS written by students of subscribing schools are accepted. Fiction, nonfiction, photos, artwork, and pertinent letters to the editor are accepted. Submitted materials cannot be returned. Submissions should: 1. Be respectful and exceed generally accepted standards of decency. 2. Be typewritten or computer printed if submitted via U.S. Mail. Inkjet, laser, or dot matrix (with dark ribbon) printers are acceptable. Proofread and make revisions before final copy is printed. Avoid stray marks. 3. Be of a non-decorative typestyle and typed in upper and lower case. 4. Be composed as ASCII text without carriage returns at the ends of lines within paragraphs if submitted by email. Other email formats cannot be accepted. 5. Include, in this order, at the top of the first page: a) student's name, b) name, city. and state of school of attendance, c) year in school: grade 4, grade 5, etc. 6. Contain at the end a statement such as, "This is my original work. It does not contain the words of anyone else without proper credit." 7. Be under 1,000 words for the Elementary School Writer and under 2,000 words for the Junior High School Writer and Senior High School Writer. 8. Be addressed and mailed to The Elementary School Writer, P.O. Box 718, Grand Rapids, MN 55744-0718 or to writer@mx3.com if submitting via email. Email submissions must include the school's E-Code on the "Subject" line of the email document. Each school that subscribes is assigned a unique E-Code that is found just above the package mailing label that accompanies each monthly issue. The last name of an individual student submitting a piece or pieces must be added to the end of the E-Code. Teachers who send multiple submissions by more than one student in one email document are to enter the E-Code, but no name.
